Summer Museum Educator & Museum Education Assistant Positions
The Kitimat Museum & Archives is seeking enthusiastic and creative individuals to join our Museum Education Team this summer! We are hiring two Summer Programmers Leads and two Summer Programmers to lead and support our popular Museum Kids’ Summer of Adventure program.
Positions Available
Education Programmer Lead (2 positions)
● Wage: $22.50/hour
● Duration: 11 weeks (June 2 – August 15, 2025)
● Hours: 35 hours/week
Education Programmer (2 positions)
● Wage: $20.50/hour
● Duration: 8 weeks (June 23 – August 15, 2025)
● Hours: 35 hours/week
About the Role
The Museum Education Team will develop, market, and deliver the Museum Kids’ Summer of Adventure program, running twice daily for 6.5 weeks for children ages 3 to 9. Each program hosts up to 12 participants and explores themes of local history, environment, arts, and culture through hands-on learning activities, crafts, games, songs, and discussions.
As a team, you will:
● Assess and improve existing programs
● Develop new, engaging educational activities
● Market the program through social media, posters, and local media
● Organize and manage program registration
● Plan and participate in community events, including the Canada Day Parade
The Lead Museum Educators oversee program execution, ensuring team coordination, progress reporting, and troubleshooting while fostering a creative and engaging learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
Program Development & Delivery
● Plan and lead daily educational programs for young children.
● Improve and expand existing activities using museum resources, local history, and community connections.
● Incorporate crafts, games, storytelling, guest speakers, and field trips to enhance learning.
● Ensure all activities are engaging, age-appropriate, and inclusive.
Marketing & Outreach
● Promote programs via social media, posters, signs, local media, and the Canada Day Parade.
● Assist with developing marketing materials using Canva, Microsoft Office, and digital tools.
Team Collaboration & Leadership
● Lead Museum Educators: Supervise and coordinate the education team, set goals, and provide guidance.
● All team members: Work collaboratively, share workload based on interests, and adapt as needed.
● Foster a fun, team-oriented environment with strong communication and problem-solving.
Program Logistics & Administration
● Organize program registration, scheduling, and supply management.
● Maintain safety protocols and support children’s learning and well-being.
