Craig Simpson Memorial Retrospective

This memorial retrospective of Craig Simpson’s work will be on display in the Upstairs Gallery of the Kitimat Museum & Archives, from July 30 to August 14, 2021.

Craig Simpson [1934-2020] began sketching, painting, and creating art projects from a young age. His mother was an accomplished artist and sculptor, who taught and encouraged him, and this pastime developed into a disciplined painting practice that saw Craig painting every weekday afternoon. Craig painted the things he liked; in particular, the soft blues and greys of the North Coast. He also enjoyed painting portraits of friends and family, seascapes, boats, old trucks, and abstracts. His medium of choice was usually acrylics, but also pastels and pencil. Artists of influence for him included Molly Bobak, E.J. Hughes, Edward Hopper, and, naturally, Vincent Van Gogh.

Craig was a long-time Kitimat resident before moving to Terrace, and he was a staunch supporter of the Kitimat Museum & Archives.

There is no opening reception for this exhibition, and the Upstairs Gallery is accessible by lift.
