Creative Expressions from Mount Elizabeth Middle Secondary School
The Kitimat Museum & Archives proudly presents INSIGHTS, an annual student art show featuring the work of over 20 talented students from Mount Elizabeth Middle Secondary School. Now in its 25th year, this beloved exhibition offers a powerful look into the imagination and artistic development of Kitimat’s youth.
This year’s INSIGHTS includes a dynamic range of media and techniques. Visitors can expect to see embroidery, acrylic painting, coloured pencil, artist marker, coil pottery, metal work, graphite, oil pastel, and even dioramas—demonstrating the breadth of creative exploration in the classroom. A video walkthrough of a student-designed digital game is also featured as part of the exhibit, offering a glimpse into how digital storytelling intersects with visual art.
The artworks were curated by the school’s dedicated art teacher, Katherine Johnsen. Rather than organizing the exhibit by grade level or medium, pieces are grouped by the creative themes students worked on throughout the year, providing visitors with a thoughtful and cohesive journey through varied artistic responses.
The Mount Elizabeth art program brings together students from Grades 9 through 12 in a shared learning environment. With guidance from three teachers, students engage with diverse materials and approaches while expressing their own perspectives and identities through art.
INSIGHTS is more than just an exhibition—it’s a celebration of the energy, emotion, and experimentation that define student creativity. We invite the community to explore this annual showcase and support Kitimat’s next generation of artists.
