“Life on the coast of British Columbia takes me and my imagination away to some of the most beautiful places, and is the inspiration that propels my work. You will often find me exploring woodlands and forests, walking along beaches and shorelines, looking up at the skies, counting the stars, searching for meaning, entranced by the beauty of creation. As I spend time meditating on the beautiful world around me, it has helped me to face the most tumultuous moments in life and is an anchor through difficult times. With each brush stroke, time slows down and I find the peace and stillness that exists in these remote places. When I lose myself in a painting, I can explore another world, imagine an incredible future, tell an amazing story. It’s a way for me to search for something greater than me, to find constancy and sanctuary in its beauty, to grow as a human being and to learn to always stay grateful.”
About the Artist
Rebecca LaPierre was born in Calgary, Alberta in 1979. Growing up in an artistic and musical family, she developed a love for drawing at a young age, and went on to rekindle it in later years. As a self-taught artist, Rebecca has spent hours fine-tuning her skills in multiple mediums such as watercolor and oil paints. Her love for art and nature compels her to continue learning and developing her abilities as an artist.
In 2019 Rebecca moved to Kitimat, where she spends much of her time exploring the beautiful, rugged northern coast from which her inspiration comes. She has exhibited some of her works in past community exhibitions at the Kitimat Museum, but this is her first solo show.
