Bylaw 5:  Current

The District of Kitimat Council and the Haisla Nation Council may each appoint a representative to the Board and will observe the following:

1. There is no set term for either appointment.
2. The Haisla Nation Council position is voting, providing a voice for the Haisla Nation regarding Museum operations including collections. Annual dues will be paid for voting status.
3. The District of Kitimat Council position is advisory but non-voting given potential conflicts of interest regarding financial issues.

Bylaw 5:  Proposed

The District of Kitimat Council and the Haisla Nation Council may each appoint a representative to the Board and will observe the following:

1. No set term for appointments.
2. Positions are voting, providing the opportunity to give input on Museum operations.
3. Annual dues will be paid for voting status.

Notes:

There is no legal requirement in governance that appointees be non-voting.  Museum staff have checked with Warren Waycheshen, District CAO, and Samantha Anderson, Library Director.

The District of Kitimat is advisory but potential conflicts of interest regarding influencing financial issues have not occurred to date.  As a plus, having the District of Kitimat voting will decrease the issue of making quorum.  Although the District vote has influence, there are 8 votes and 1 tie breaker (Board Chair) for a democratic vote.

With all memberships and Board positions, dues must be paid.  Maintaining an individual membership annually is sufficient to be a member in good standing.
